@Sandra: rediscover your core, your true self. Leave behind stuff that hinders inner growth. Understand that based on our primal nature we are leaders not followers. Inform yourself, expand you knowledge and your awareness, the way it is being done on this and other sensitive subject threads and other sites, boards, blogs, etc.
Read some Riane Eisler who knows a lot about what she calls the dominator system, Merlin Stone, Stephanie Vermeulen, Catherine Blackledge. If you feel that their books speak to you, continue to educate yourself knowing that there has been such a thing as herstory and female leadership/feminism long before the history we are generally taught about begun.
Own your sexuality, express your opinions, be political, and reject patriarchy.
Face the fact that the last round of feminist activism has turned out to be a failure considering what is going on in the world today, who runs world affairs, who possesses the most decision making power, and who suffers the most, along with what is being done to nature, our source of food, the planet that is our home.
As you go through this process of personal empowerment you will discover what you feel like doing to pave the way for future generations. Something you deeply believe in, that which fulfills you, based on your situation, environment and talent or skill.
@Carla: child genital mutilation falls into the category of women’s rights because men don’t bear children, and among mammals males are not equipped with any special protector instincts the way females are. What we perceive as such is learned behavior.
Mutilated women not only feel less empathy but also develop a tendency to want to relive their trauma by continuing the tradition and mutilating kids/paying someone to do it. Even healthy women don’t see much of a big deal with men being circumcised even though this happens when they are infants/children and not grown men. Again, learned behavior.
I already wrote that penile circumcision and clitoral castration are totally different in consequence, but males too are being traumatized for life. Even though the foreskin isn’t just a flap of skin, the trauma in males is more mental than physical.
The point is that I think we all agree that children should not be mutilated.
