Religion today is outdated.
It is still maintained by and for those who attempt to use it as a means to control their environment because they cannot control themselves.
In other words, religion is ideal for people with serious personal (and likely psychological) issues they cannot deal with.
The rigid rules of the Jewish-Christian-Islamic (Abrahamic) religions can only truly be useful to seriously disturbed individuals who would otherwise (without religion) do horrible things consciously and openly without the ‘divine armor’ of religion.
Examples that come to mind are religious fanatics who support ‘biblical discipline’ or Sharia ‘laws’.
Further, the largest and most powerful religious institutions today are based on patriarchy which stands in strong opposition to human rights, gender equality, female leadership and independence, etc.
Ignoring this last point would be the opposite of progressive which I thought Huffington Post was all about.
And finally, so-called atheists more often than not respect Mother Nature, which the religious interpret as a religion.
When I think about it, they may be right (to some extent).
It is not known whether Earth is the only planet with life on it.
“the religious practices of extraterrestrials” ??!?
@BannedinBoston: correct, and even if it could be proven, what does it have to do with certain ancient male individuals who allegedly existed, their alleged theories, ‘laws’, etc.?
Animism = respect for and gratitude toward Mother Nature as opposed to exploitation and abuse.
