Genetic inheritance (‘tendencies’), lack of unconditional love/protection (primarily) on part of the mother, overall upbringing (environment, learned behavior) rooted in unnatural ‘order’ and consecutive ‘obedience’; as well as ‘human’ (mammalian) nature/survival instinct.
When you look at all of the three combined you see that we act in ways we think we should in order to survive, be accepted by society, etc.

We do things that appear to be the right ones in order to maintain or achieve security/comfort even when this is at the cost of someone else’s security/comfort. And the less unconditional love we receive in developmental years the more desperate (narcissistic, opportunistic, greedy, corrupt, power-hungry, anti-social, sociopathic, etc.) we are about achieving and growing the level of security/comfort, and the less likely we are to feel satisfied (secure, comfortable) by it or happy with ourselves. This in turn produces rage (on top of rage accumulated during developmental years) expressed passively (f. e. backstabbing) and/or aggressively (f. e. open verbal/physical offense).

Overall children are not raised nor loved as equals/human beings, but as something you want to be for you (parent) and you want ‘it’ (child) to develop your way. Almost like a pet or worse.
People do this because they themselves never learned about unconditional love of the mother, because in this current global culture the mother is not valued by far as much as she is worth, so she doesn’t value neither herself nor her ‘product’ (flesh and blood, miracle, whatever you want to call it) as much as a human life is worth.
It’s an ongoing cycle supported by religion, politics, money, and the false self (ego) that has become a part of the human survival instinct in our ‘advanced’ world.
